I unfortunately missed the first couple of talks for FM presentation due to illness but I met marrion for the first time on the 5th and really found her to be an excellent source for ideas for my CV. The CV is the first project for FM Presentation and is completely not what I was expecting. I genuinely thought that it would be listing out skills onto an A4 price of paper for future employers - something we'd already done and bored me to death one before, so I will admit at first I was not looking forward to this project - also when I was told this was the second out of three for this particular project I thought the world had gone mad - CV's aren't that hard to write!?
But here is where I was wrong- this was an arty CV. The kind fun and imagination are made of. Marrion showed us a presentation she compiled of multiple types of cvs by creative people - illustrators, designers, artists and so on. The ideas were endless - things I had never thought about for a CV or just by means of self promotion. Some were beautiful, others funny, some just plain mad - but they all, worked, they all got the attention they wanted.
I found the presentation really inspiring, I'd never thought of a CV in this way before, how creative it could be and how it really could be the thing that makes someone pick you or be intrigued by you because of its design and format. After receiving the briefing I nipped straight onto the computer to gather some inspiration of my own.
The ideas were endless, they were all beautiful and worked as a CV. I knew that personally I wanted mine to really reflect my style and personality but I still wanted to have something that would be aesthetically pleasing for most people too. I wanted something g that would be different but also easy to make - something more than a decided A4 piece of paper but not so complex i would not be able to make many of them or have something that would simply cost too much.
A style that I did particularly like was a 'fan' inspired CV. I thought that aesthetically they were very pretty, they left plenty of room for information and were also very customisable too.
As I write this I am currently making small prototypes to look at shapes and how practicle the different shapes could be. From my tutorial with Marrion we decided that a fan style could really work and that there could also be an option on a larger illustration on the fanned out back of the CV. We also looked at ideas such as creating little tabs at the end of each fan piece with a it if information, weather it was my name, a number or the title for the relevant information.
As well as the different design ideas I also want to take into account size too. Although i would like to create something pocket sized and portable I wouldn't want something quite as small as a buiness card as Marrion told me we will be doing those soon anyway and that it would be a good idea to have a collection of things that aren't going to overlap and confuse.
For other style ideas for the CV I have been looking at a favourite fascination of mine - vintage tattooing. I have taken images from the internet of old tattoo studios buisiness card and merchandise to help inspire me. I have a complete fascination with everytng tattoo, and its a style I actively associate with and am a part of. I think my back ground in tattooing from working in a studio and apprenticing means that they traditions of tattooing, mostly the style and designs, have really shown in my work and personal style and I would like the to be reflected in my work and promotion material as an illustrator.
