The lovely Betty Pepper!

Recently during the Book Arts module at Uni I stumbled upon an artist called Betty Pepper. Her work is so beautiful and hand made and when I emailed her she was amazing and replied in 24hours with attatchements about her information!

I've decided to look into her work further for my Discourse Presentation to talk about how much she has influence me and my work and my views on the art world too. I really do reccomend you check this awesome artist out!

Book Arts & Angie Butler

Today we were lucky enough at university to have a guest visiting for our book arts module, double Master's holder Angie Butler. Before I go in to how awesome her work is and how helpful her advice was, I'd like to start off and say that she is one of the loveliest visitors I've had the opportunity to meet while studying my illustration course. She was friendly and approchable and no question was too simple or stupid.

As a practitioner, Angie's work really inspired me. I loved the variety of work and the stories she had been able to tell and share with others through her work. I gained so many ideas just simply looking at the covers of all the different artist books she brought in, and that was before I had peeks inside the books! She spoke openly and comfortably to us about where she's been able to take her work and the vast stories and pieces she's been able to create and it really showed me just how versatile book arts really can be and how much more you can do than simple make a book. Some of the books I saw made me laugh, some I couldn't believe how beautiful they were in cover and content and for other books, they did bring out emotions like empathy that I haven't gotten from a book in a long time. 

She was also kind enough to bring some of her own collection of books by other artists with her, with this we got to see an even wider range of books and content and a lot of these books were a lot more than just pretty paper. I think some of the concept and memory books spoke to me the most, as I horde a lot of objects within my life for keepsakes and memories, photos, trinkets, anything, and I think I'd like to take some inspiration from what I was lucky enough to see and bring the personalitly into my own work.
