For a Valentine's gift my darling boyfriend took me to Manchester Art Gallery for the day! Even though he was evidently bored he was so sweet and I had a great time.
I really enjoyed looking at some of the different collections and exhibitions they had on display there. Although I'm not really a "modern art" kinda girl I have to say that their little modern art section did have some really cool stuff in there but an artist who really caught my eye in one of their other exhibitions (Lowry & Valette) was that of Adolphe Valette.I found his work particularly inspiring and the darkness and mood that he creates with use of colour and brush stroke a style that I was really drawn too and felt link with the way some of my work a while back looked and I have just fallen in love with his work.
The other image that I found and really liked was "Autumn Leaves" by Sir John Everett Millais. I found the colours and expression's on the girl's faces really beautiful and subdude and it really appealed to me. I think that it has a touch of melancholy and the colours and expressions as well as the use of the wilting autumn leaves shows this.
The other part of the gallery that I fell in love with was the Gallery of Craft and Design. I love collecting little mementos and random objects and I wish I could have had everything in there! There was a hugh collection of tea cups and tea pots that were so detailed and unique which showed to me many different styles and cultures in a single cabinet. I was particularly fond of the "Memory" collection. This is because I'm a soppy sentimental bugger at heart and memories and personal identity mean a lot to me and I like to show it within my own work when possible. So the small, personal identities held within the collection really spoke to me and inspired me.
